Vintage find

I’m excited to share a new addition to our furniture collection!  I discovered this lovely rocking chair during one of my trips to a vintage store in Providence, RI and I just couldn’t let it sit there abandoned and forlorn.

So after paying the grand sum of $50 I took it home with me. It needs some TLC: the seat has to be replaced and the wood  reconditioned.

But here’s the exciting part: the tag on the chair says “F. Mohr and Company Manufacturers” and from what I’ve been able to find out it seems this was a company that built furniture for the Pennsylvania’s state capital sometime in the late 1800s. I will try to get an opinion from an appraiser and who knows? our little chair could be worth quite a lot! In any case it is now a permanent resident of our house.

The hubs has already cut the seat bottom to fit and it’s already looking much better after some light cleaning.

The next step is to find the foam and fabric for the seat. I was looking for oilcloth fabric however it seems it is quite difficult to find so here are some of the other options I am considering:

So which one do you vote for: stripes, diamond or floral?

  1. Dungile parca nu s-ar potrivi! Ramane intre flori si diamond. Mie mi-ar placea florile! E doar o opinie, astept cu nerabdare continuarea, rezultatul final!
Spor la renovare! Esti fantastica! Dupa experienta asta ai putea sa te reorientezi! Glumeam!
    Bisous!

  2. Si eu inclin spre diamond .. O sa comand niste monstre ca sa vad cum arata pe viu si voi raporta. Sper sa termin luna asta:-)

  3. Very cool chair! I like the diamonds best, but maybe just because dad has been steering me away from florals for 36 years!

    1. I think it’s unanimous – diamonds it is!
